Midnight Commander is an open source clone of Norton Commander and is
much more extensive than, for example, DECO, which is of
course also reflected in its size (DECO: about 60 kB, mc without help
files: about 400 kB).

It allows navigation through the directory structure, viewing and editing
text files, and even unpacking archives. An FTP client is also included,
so FTP servers can be accessed almost as conveniently as local
directories.

If Putty is used to connect to the Fritz!Box, the following Putty
settings are recommended to ensure correct function and display:

Window -> Translation -> Enable VT100 line drawing even in UTF-8 Mode
Window -> Colors -> Indicate bolded text by changing: The color
Connection -> Data -> Terminal-type string: xterm-color
